They could be found after people are being released, yes! They won't stop people from growing trees from them, and would honestly probably appreciate it, but they also won't be sending the characters any thanks or gifts for it -- after all, it's the characters who were cutting down the trees to begin with.

So even if they're found after the event, they won't be very inclined to talking.
