hello, friends!!

so, i've been thinking a lot about how selina would see to make herself useful in chroma, and with all the unaccompanied minors roaming around, i kept returning to one idea in particular:

selina is going to open up a youth center.

i'm going to hold off until after the werewolf event to post about this ICly on the network and start making the necessary moves to get things "up and running," but i really wanted to throw something up here so we can all start brainstorming. while selina's willing to maintain this long-term, this is meant to be a collaborative thing. she is going to need a ton of help! she's going to require supplies, she's going to need volunteers, and they're going to require suggestions for projects they can do together to better the community.

for organization purposes, we'll have an official "sign-up" but unless your character is intentionally trolling the "sign up page," i can't imagine anyone being turned down or anything being outright rejected. (these programs are meant for the many tweens and teens here in town, so maybe keep that in mind? i imagine some of these "classes" will even be run by other t(w)eens.)

i am thinking about running this as a monthly post. each month, throughout the month, characters will have an opportunity to participate in activities, learn new skills from volunteers, and whatnot. maybe one month, someone donates paint to the youth center, so in the following month, the kids go around town painting murals. maybe your character has a skill -- like knitting, or karate, or simple magic tricks -- that they'd like to pass along to interested parties! maybe they just want to play mentor, idk! i'm open to all ideas!!

but... uh, yeah! comments? ideas? questions? I'M OPEN TO 'EM.

I don't have any particular input besides Caramia is super into this idea and would love to help.

He'd be down for setting up occasional teamwork exercises. It'd be an excuse to force kids to interact with people they wouldn't normally, while also building teamwork skills [throws confetti]

Izuku would definitely volunteer to help out. I especially like the painting idea. Maybe a crafts class of some kind could work with that--since there's a lot of materials around town that they can use to make other things i.e. fabric since people don't like wearing the fantasy clothes that much.

yes, definitely! literally all we're limited by is WHAT IS AVAILABLE and WHO IS AVAILABLE TO DONATE THEIR TIME. i'm really hoping we get characters who are willing to teach things like sewing, knitting, etc. because these can all help improve the town in the long run.

BUT YES YOU KNOW I'M INTERESTED. he'll be selina's back up in whatever set up she needs. tell him to jump and he'll jump!!! not that... that's much different from usual for them...... he can't give her the cash for the youth center this time but he can give her his hard labor

i mean, she was absolutely planning on bossing him around and having him do some heavy lifting, so THAT'S convenient. :')

This would actually jive really nicely with a thought I'd been tossing around with Ignis recently - he got a couple of musical instruments as his reward for succeeding at last month's quest and I'd been thinking of having him give lessons somehow with the ones he knows how to play, so volunteering that as a part of the youth center might be just the thing!

(also he does know how to sew if you actually need people who can sew)

This is also sort of in his arena of interest because he's been looking at ways of taking town improvements like the garden or Clark's soap-making and trying to streamline them to enable better access to them for the town as a whole, so maybe there'd be something there to go in tandem with the youth center's projects?

yesss! i was hoping this would align nicely with plans others may have been tossing around, especially with seeing some of the rewards that characters have received.

this was the line of thought for selina, too. to enable better access, to give characters the skills to set other things in motion, etc. i'd love to see groups volunteering to clean up public buildings or staff things like the library, i'd love to see more people learning how to help out in the gardens, etc. her biggest goals are to keep the kids (and really, in her book, that's anyone under 25) preoccupied and out of trouble and to focus that energy in bettering their community. ignis is welcome to be as big or as small a part of that as he'd like! :3

Akira will help/join the youth center! He knows mostly how to cook, make coffee, pick locks, and some other random things. (He'll also only be minimally wary since the adults in Chroma seem mostly okay.)

wonderful! all things everyone could benefit from picking up, tbh. (look, selina isn't a regular mom adult. she's a cool mom adult. she can't speak for the rest of 'em but she'll vouch for, uh... she'll vouch for clark.)

I'm technically logged into the wrong journal, but Percy would be 100% behind this. As someone who's spent the last five years at summer camp training with/training other kids he would absolutely be here to help and volunteer his time.

Actually John...would also probably do the same, so I guess you can count both of them if that's okay! John would be more likely to join while also volunteering while Percy would be more likely to just volunteer and dig his heels in that he's not a teenager smh. Between the two of them their skills vary between arts and crafts, defense training, music, baking, swimming and some other stuff.

selina will happily take both!! someone with experience working with other kids is also a big bonus, so she'll be thrilled to have percy, definitely. :3

But yeah no Rin is more than happy to help! He's been doing a lot just giving out food but the more that can cook for themselves the less he has to be holed up in the kitchen all day.
