OKAY WELL Shadows are monsters that are basically the manifestations of negative human emotion. Sounds like Rose's schtick. Mitsuru's family/legacy was kind of involved in researching them, trying to harness their power, which ended up killing a lot of people and creating a secret 25th hour of the day where Shadows can roam free. Whoops? It's also sickly green and covered in blood and all humans who can't be awake during it turn into coffins.
