Affinity in the game mostly means your character can unlock their mutations more easily (each time you finish a battle, there's a % chance that your persona might mutate and unlock a unique skill and/or gain ranks. The better the affinity, the easier it is to roll a mutation). It also makes the SP cost is more the lower the rank is...all spells in P2 take the same SP no matter what they are.
RP/DW Otherwise, the affinities sort of showcase what your character is like. For example, Nanjo was bad with Emperor in P1 BUT in P2 it's one of his two Best in the Major Arcana, showing his shift from being an annoying asshole that got on everyone's nerves because he thinks he's better than others to being worthy to lead others.
I feel that if Goro had a chart in P1/P2 it would look like Reiji's on that list with Justice also at Best. Reiji pretty much has Goro's story except his mom is alive and he wants to kill the Antagonist of the game who is his half brother since their dad is dead. You know, best of kin is also acceptable when it comes to murder :Ub I'm sure Goro would agree...

Anyway, what I'm getting from this is that affinities work like... Pokemon types... and trainers who especialize in a single type... (I'm sorry if this is my only reference, but at least I think I get it?)
And WELL. He's more of a direct revenge sort of guy, but he couldn't exactly be opposed to it, either...

P5 does borrow a lot of things from the earlier games like
1) Weapons + Guns which haven't' been done since P1 (but in P1 they are real guns stole from the police station oops did I mention Kei is the one who stole them)
2) Demon contacts except in P1 and P2 it's very complicated and tedious and I'm glad P5 just made it much more simple.
