I'm excited for so many things - Kei asking her how it is in the ~future~, Mitsuru probably learning he was a Persona user (honestly I have no idea if she knew or not? Arena/Ultimax seems to imply people in the government know about Persona users...), fusion spells...hey look my dead butler is my main Persona...glad you're also burdened with your family history but trying to fix it, why does your leader look like my leader, why is this guy who reminds me of the Snow Queen following you guys around, BY THE WAY DID YOU KNOW WE'RE IN AN ALTERNATE TIMELINE??? all sorts of good shit 👌

GOD there is so much to cover!! We should decide how we want to handle their shared history. I'm not sure if Mitsuru HERSELF may know that Kei is a Persona user, but given the family history, she could definitely suspect. We know that there's still a lot that she's trying to learn about her family's past which, by the end of P3 itself, there are still a lot of blanks. But she would definitely know who he is. Any thoughts on that?
Also, would we say they've ever met?? Even if it was when she's a baby. But man I realize he's actually like, what...11 years older than her? 12? That's gonna be some immediate time shenanigans pings.
I'm gonna cut this in parts I'm sorry - Part 1 - Persona 1
OKAY SO LEMME JUST DUMP A MILLION THINGS ON YOU AND WE CAN USE THAT TO IRON IT OUT.
First Persona 1
The year is 1996, and I believe that would be 13 years ago from P3's timeline so that would mean when Kouetsu Kirijo was beginning his research with plum of dusks (14 years ago Kouetsu Kirijo began the experimentation of Shadows in order to learn and harness their powers to create a time manipulation device.).
Not sure what Nanjo Corp was doing at this time, but SEBEC's Japanese branch was under Kandori and they were trying to make a device for teleportation and ended up finding a gateway to the dream world of Maki Sonomura when she was plugged directly into the DEVA Machines leading into the events of Persona 1 where the team gets taken to her dream world and faces off against Kandori and various aspects of Maki and Kandori tries to become a god at one point and eradicate all of human life? It's okay Nanjo tells him he's a dumbass.
I have a feeling that Kandori and Koutesu would probably know each other, partly because they were in the same 'circle'. Nanjo talks about Kandori in detail in the manga (1) (2) (3)
In the end, Sebec's japanese branch is destroyed, Kandori is killed. I think Mitsuru might be aware of SEBEC if she looked into files since as you'll see from P2, his research and scientists involved were was later bought by the Nanjo Group and (I feel) definitely shared to the Mitsuru Group, but she wouldn't know who was involved apart from Kandori since the students involved remained hidden. (see the ending scroll)
OH AND ANOTHER THING
The P1 gang also fought an aspect of Nyx (the Night/Snow Queen) infiltrating the 3 towers (Hypnos, Thanatos and Nemesis) to get to her. When they beat her, she warns them that Eternal Night will fall so long as people see to turn hope to despair.
Part 2 - Persona 2
In this world, Persona 1 did happen again, only now instead of having people fighting Nazis and going on spaceships, we've got the New World Order attempting to use a mixture of science and magic to PURIFY THE WORLD OF HUMANS WITH DRAGONS and jfc is any large cooperation in the Persona universe not evil?

Nyarlathotep the big bad of the games is playing out events so that the world will blow up like in the first universe where he won, and Nanjo ends up researching rumors that Kandori is somehow back to life and this leads him to Sumaru city to do some undercover work during his Oxford school break. This is when he starts to dig into his own family history to move the spider webs.
First he finds out that his family purchased all of SEBEC's Scientists and knowledge and that they are teaming up with the government, of which are some NWO members. Basically handing dangerous research to another doomsday cult, if you will.
As Nanjo and the group goes deep into the sewers where he found out a hidden lab was placed, they realize that this is not just work of the Nanjo corporation but something far sinister (the NWO). First they stop the security cameras before going into the heart of the lab and discover that...
DUN DUN DUN...HUMAN EXPERIMENTS (wow super original). People are being turned into monsters attempting to draw out their Personas and the people are becoming overtaken by the Personas making them turn into monsters. For what purpose you may ask?
They find a computer that more information for them;
- Experiments on seperating the Joker from the user (Jokers are basically the negativity of the users - their shadow, if you will)
- Theory on spinal nerve transplants for two-legged organisms (aka SENTIENT ROBOTS)
- Research and theory on artificially creating Persona users (AKA like Strega)
- (Here is that dialogue)
Then they find a room where inside a lot of JOKER negative energy is being bottled wow that doesn't look like shadows at all. AT ALL.
Stuff happens, they end up finding out that yes Kandori is alive, brought back to life by rumors and the NWO wanting to have him continue to research. More plot and then they have to go face off against Kandori in an undersea lab.
Nanjo makes his choice when it comes to his family name and what he needs to do. Mitsuru would probably understand that.
She probably never found out about this part, however because it does turn out that his new butler is clearing his name whenever he does stuff. Also please note his stupid-ass boat that gets destroyed has his logo on it like...yes clear his name while he's off with a boat like this lmao.
More plot happens, and he leaves the team after Kandori gets killed by the sea lab (but not by his hand this time) but by his own choice.
SO THAT'S it for Persona 2.

I think with all of that, I'm sure Kei and Mitsuru met. The way the scientists react to her awakening (when does that happen time-wise?) I'm not sure they definitely seem to imply they knew about Personas, but only as a rumor "I knew it! Persona users do exist!".
I think Kei is trying to keep his promise to make Nanjo corp a lot less shady than his parents made it. Because of his powers he might be able to sense she is a Persona user, but I'm okay with either him giving her that information as they met when he was older and she was older or if he just kept that part to himself.

There's definitely stuff here that Mitsuru herself probably wouldn't have been privy to unless she dug, and obviously stuff that had been essentially blacked out of parties involved, but she would likely have an idea of the sort of experimentation that was being done, even if not full details. Clearly the Kirijo Group went full-tilt boogie with the robots (ANTI-SHADOW WEAPONS) and the forced Person users, haha. So I think it'd be more likely that she would have had access to that information than some of the others.
But for the record i love Nyarlathotep so I am 100% on board with this. I DUB IT AWASH CANON.
OKAY THOUGH! They met, at least when she was very young?? Do you think they would have met after? There's still a lot of back and forth and at some point she has to entertain her fiance who is actually probably just a few years older than Kei by the end of P3. Considering both groups were the same, then split off, then became "business partners", only to further solidify the bond (potentially) through marriage, I do think there would be some information flow between them via research but I can definitely also see each group of still wanting to hold onto it too. Thoughts?

ALRIGHT I HEREBY AGREE THAT NYARLY IS AT THE CAUSE OF A LOT OF SHIT at least involving P1-P3.
I would be more than okay with them meeting up much later too, at least from what Mitsuru would remember and Kei would not have happened to him just yet. They probably have idk typical rich company yearly meetings at a fancy place or via satellite conference calls where they discuss business and drink sake and all of that.
I definitely feel that Kei would hate her fiance since he hated Kandori so he has good uh...judge of shitty character skills at least when it comes to rich assholes. He can't really tell Mitsuru what to do when it comes to him since there are some unwritten rules and it's not his choice. However I'm sure that next yearly meeting when she tells him they aren't dating anymore, he'd probably say something like "oh is that so? That's a shame" that is obviously riddled with 'good riddance to bad rubbish' but in more polite terms.
I also agree that both companies would keep some secrets from each other. How much and what stuff is up for debate, but I'm sure at least by Nanjo's canon I am taking him from, he would have no idea about the anti-shadow weapons being made at the time, although he would have heard about the explosion at the Kirijo lab since that was in 1999, but the exact details would be lost on him and what they were trying to do.

HONESTLY THAT'S HOW EVERYONE SHOULD FEEL. He's such an asshole. But that being said! Yes, so they could have seen each other in a more formal/business setting, but that would mean she would be able to recognize him probably more easily than she would otherwise. (You know, other than general profile and whatever news she's been able to garner of him over the years.) Although obviously he'll be younger than she remembers. YAY TIME SHENANIGANS.
She will definitely be interested in what his POV was at the time of the INCIDENT, in her mind, even knowing he wasn't exactly involved.
But YAY I AM EXCITED. They're formal acquaintances and they'll get to learn a lot more about each other in game.
