No Place Like Home
[ 7/20 - 7/23 ]

It seems the Town isn't done with its dubious rewards! Because on 7/20, characters will stumble on a new feature of the Town -- probably quite literally.

When characters go through their usual routine, they'll find, after going through one of the doorways to the places they usually visit, that that place has turned completely different. A portal has appeared instead, giving the characters access to a new location. Perhaps their closet is the portal -- perhaps it's climbing a tree in Flavo. Whatever it is, characters will find themselves transported right out of the Town... or so it feels, anyway.

In actuality, they are still there, of course! It's not that easy to get out of this place. But each of these "doorways" leads to a different pocket reality, built from the memories of a character in the Town. In other words? You can go home... sort of.

The actual areas are pieced together from characters' memories; that means they're hazy and poorly defined in some places, and will only cover a reasonably small area of their actual home. Think the size of a school or small shopping center, a large park, an apartment building, or half of a street in the suburbs. Each character will have one of these areas, which can be accessed from some random "doorway" in the Town -- though it doesn't necessarily have to be a door. Feel free to come up with unusual access points if you'd prefer, since it can be anything from a loose floorboard in their house to a rather large bush next to a pond. As long as characters can "pass through" it, they'll be able to access the pocket reality.

Keep in mind that it will be the same "doorway" every time, and other characters can also stumble across it. No matter how many times anyone visits it, the pocket reality will always be in the same place as well, so choose wisely! If it's your character's house, it will always be your character's house for the duration of the event.

While characters can stumble into other character's pocket realities, characters who are not from that world will be unable take anything from that world once inside, though they can certainly look around and interact with the setting. On the other hand, characters whose world it is (castmates included!) will be able to interact with the setting, and will be able to take one small item from their home world per each other character they bring with them. There is a catch though -- they won't be able to bring anything if they don't have a friend along for the ride! That seems to be the necessary exchange in this case. Therefore, for each and every thread with a new character, they can grab something small from home.

And once, during the event, they will be able to bring back a large item from home.

Small belongings are things like a bag of chips from the supermarket, a blanket from their bedroom, a small amount of ammo or a picture. Please note that it is small -- a shirt would be fine, for example, but an entire outfit would classify as a large item. (They can, of course, piece together an entire outfit from repeated trips, one piece of clothing at a time, if they go back enough times.)

Large items can be practically anything that they would be able to find in that area -- the only caveat is that they have to be able to carry it, so vehicles are right out! But a whole outfit, a new weapon, an entire box of soda cans... the possibilities are endless.

Characters will, of course, not know that they can do this until they try! But if they try to bring something back with them that's a little too large, they won't be able to leave until they put it down. There will also be no people in these small memories of home; it's eerily empty, with only the people stumbling into it from the Town to populate it. However, if it's an area that would be dangerous and have monsters, those will still be around and still be as dangerous as always. Good luck, everyone!

As ever, please ask us here if you have any questions, and feel free to use this post to coordinate and plot if need be. Thank you!

Just to make sure, if two castmates go into a pocket of their home world, they'll both be able to take something with them? Or does it have to be a non cast mate?
unfatalist: not that we're going to stick to it but you know (ASSESS ⚔ okay chums here's the plan)

Hey, mods! I have a sort of hair-splitty question regarding how we're defining "home" - is it explicitly the place that the character considers to be their home specifically, or is that shorthand for "wherever they were before Awash"?

For example, Summer doesn't consider Nevermorrow to be her home, but it's the place that she was residing prior to Awash. Could a portal for her go there anyway, or would it go to the place she thinks of as home specifically?

When it comes to not being able to bring back anything when they're alone or more than one item per friend, can they not pick up these items in the first place, or does their armload of goodies disappear when they leave?

Can animals count as items...?

And as they’re made up of memories does it have to be a place they’ve physically been or can it be a place they’ve been told of and imagined?

How would the "no people but possibly monsters" bit work if, in your character's case, the monsters are the people to them?

I’m thinking a kitten. A volatile...sparky kitten. Probably the size of a small dog. 8Da

Can the second party help carry an item?

And if multiple people go with someone at the same time, does the item brought back count for all of them?

piggybacking off the animals question--

if an animal is, say

fused with a potted plant, and as such, is the size of a flower in a lovely terracotta pot

is that a big item or a small item??

Hey, mods! I was wondering if parts of the Metaverse from Persona 5, specifically Palaces, could be a pocket dimension for this event? The gist of it is that the Metaverse is a cognitive world that the Phantom Thieves have access to; it's a world that exists parallel to the real world, like a distorted reality that exists in people's subconscious, but Akechi and the others have definitely seen it personally.

Xae and I are coordinating for this because our nerdy boys would technically share the same idea of home. So we were thinking of having 2 different areas of Elysia--one for each of them--but I wanted to double check that this would fly.

So basically, in the Tales of Zestiria game, "Elysia" as an area is a huge field map that extends from the entrance of a forest at the base of the mountain all the way up too at least 2 cliff edges, one of which includes the village proper.

Since that'd be way too big, we were thinking of limiting Sorey's event version of Elysia to just the village itself. From village gate to the highest point/edge. I don't have proper visuals and it's hard to explain in words X_X. But it's a fragment of the entire map. Would that small piece be too big still? If it's not too big, would it be possible for it to include the inside of houses? Specifically, Sorey's house and their Gramps' house which are honestly the only 2 houses you can go into in the game. Both houses are very small, Sorey's is barely 1 1/2 rooms and their Gramps' house is a single room.

Mikleo's on the other hand would be a different section of the bigger Elysia map and would, potentially, only cover the ruins that are close to Elysia, but only the inside of the ruins and only a specific section of them (from the door that leads to Elysia to the door behind the giant statue. Basically, only the part of it explored at the beginning of the game). Would that be considered too big?

Aaaaand, IF that all flies with you guys we had one more question..........

Can their places share an entrance, but the destination changes depending on the circumstances? Specifically, we were thinking of making the entrance the archway dividing Bluo and Flavo (I...frequently forget the exact layout of the town, so I don't know if those even exist but for the sake of the event we'll pretend they do), and only that archway. Passing through from Flavo into Bluo would land you in Sorey's vision of home, but passing through the other way would put you in Mikleo's. Would this be allowed?

Sorry for the difficult/involved questions! Thank you for your patience ; v ;.

A question, not for Kyrie, but for Hans... since where he was before Awash is a place where humans can't survive without a Crest or a specific parasite attached to them, is it safe to assume the toxin in the air would be nullified somehow?
