Mod Post. 2/3/19
Hello everyone, and welcome to February's monthly mod post! Please be sure to read all of this post -- we've got a few different things in store for this month

Mechanics
Plot
- First off, AC has completed and has been processed. AC is now open for February. February's AC Post can be found here.
- Characters removed via AC this month:
- ken amada (stophamatime)
lin xianming (fluent)
michael mell (retrobeats)
rakan (stickbow)
ryuunosuke tsunashi (awamori)- We've had a few mishaps with people misunderstanding the AC requirements, so we'd like to explain them again. A toplevel counts as a single thread, all of its subthreads included. If you are going to use it as an AC proof, you need an additional thread outside of that toplevel to pass AC. This is outlined in the AC guide, but we thought we'd explain it again just in case!
- The TDM for next month's app round will be up February 22nd, to hopefully allow everyone time to try out new characters and get samples for March's app round, which will open March 1st.
Quests
- So something's changed in the Town this month. It might take the characters some time to notice, though things will definitely feel a little ominous, and a little uncanny as characters progress into the new month. It'll feel almost like they're being watched, and almost like something very dangerous is not too far away.
It's the trees, of course.
It seems as though the woods suddenly encroached on the north of the Town, as if overnight. What was once open, clear Town is now overrun with trees from the woods, looming ominously. Roots have overgrown some of the pathways, branches have covered some of the buildings...
It's only a matter of a few feet into the Town proper, but nonetheless, any character who looks at it will have a very, very strong sense of foreboding.- Other things of note with the trees advancing: characters who have a strong sense for the supernatural/magic/darkness/etc will definitely be plagued with headaches and nausea the closer they get, though it's nothing crippling.
- Characters may also notice that the parts of the Town the trees touch, towards the middle and end of the month, will lose all color that they had before, even if it was restored properly by the characters. If you're living in one of the houses the trees are encroaching on, you might want to think fast and either move or come up with a solution!
Color Changes/Rewards
- Quests for February are now up! The OOC breakdown of said quests can be found below, as with last month. All quests have been posted ICly to the Quest Forum Post. Only quests for this month can be turned in for a reward.
- The Quest Reporting comment can be found here. As ever, please respond to that comment once the quest itself has been completed. When reporting the quest, please state what quest it is in the subject line; we've realized that that helps us a lot with keeping track over the past few months!
- Please be aware that Quests must be reported by the end of the month; this is because we use what quests are completed to keep track of what colors are restored for the next month!
This month’s color changes are as follows (color changes can be tracked at the Color Timeline):
Color Gains:
- For completing all of the quests last month, and because so much of the sky has been restored via the characters' hard work, the color of the sky entirely has now been restored. There is not a single shred of the sky that will not have color, no matter what time it is or what weather the Town is having. Maybe next month, the Town's color restorations will now move on to something else...?
- If your character has a color log thread from the month of January, please respond at this comment to choose what color you would like to restore for the month. This month, there aren't any restrictions; you can choose any color you would like to restore!
Color Losses:
- From drops: library inner walls, red beans, oysters, swans, herons, woodpeckers, fall leaves, maple syrup, purple paint, papayas, strawberries, ivy, salamanders, apple cider, milk, bluebirds, swallows, doors, town hall floor, poinsettias, blue corn, dandelions, great tits, bread rolls
If there are any questions, please ask them here, so that we don’t miss any. Thank you, everyone!

QUEST 44
Requirements: 1 yellow.
There's nothing more romantic than a serenade -- so now's a great time to show your true love by serenading someone in the Town. But any old tired love song isn't going to work for this one; no, it has to be something of your own creation, with your own lyrics. Good luck!
Ways to succeed: Any serenading will work just fine so long as a yellow's involved. You don't have to serenade the love of your life or anything; serenading a random stranger will work just as well. If you do want to serenade the love of your life and neither of you are yellows, just make a yellow character be your awkward third wheel. It'll be fun! Of course, the lyrics to the song have to be all original in some way, shape or form.
Ways to fail: Singing someone else's song isn't going to work here at all! But otherwise, go nuts.
Limit: 3 per character

QUEST 45
Requirements: 1 blue.
This looks so deceptively simple -- and it really is relatively simple at first. When your character decides to undertake this quest, they'll be given all of the ingredients they need to make some chocolate... except for one. Whatever that ingredient might be, they'll instead receive a note that tells them that they must conquer [insert monster here] or take on [choose fairy tale test here]. Maybe it's in riddle format. Either way, it's definitely, definitely a pain in the ass.
But you've already taken on the quest, so you'd better go do it. The sorts of monsters or tests that the quest will fling your way are wide and varied -- you might have to fight one of those crystal hydra that's in the woods now, or you might have to somehow wring water from a stone. Pretty much anything is fair game! You should probably rope in that person you're making chocolates for so that they can suffer too.
Ways to succeed: Take on the quest, solve the additional task to fetch the ingredient you need, and then make chocolates! Even if the chocolates suck, so long as they're safely delivered, you'll be golden.
Ways to fail: Failing the quest or monster fight, failing to find the additional ingredient, or...failing to make even basic chocolate will all pretty much ruin this one for you.
Limit: None

QUEST 46
Requirements: any two colors.
There's nothing quite so romantic as demanding that your loved one be willing to bury themselves alive, right?
... Right?
Well, that's the romance in the air for the Town this month. Note that for this quest, it does have to be someone precious to you that you either bury alive, or are buried alive by -- this doesn't have to always be romantic love, though. Familiar, platonic, deep friendship... anything is fine, so long as the bond is deep.
Otherwise, it's pretty open-ended. You can bury them alive just in a pit of dirt (would not recommend), or maybe get them a box to sit in so they don't suffocate, or something along those lines. Either way, so long as they are legitimately fully buried, the quest will be resolved.
Whether or not you unbury them after is totally up to you.
Ways to succeed: Pick a loved on that you care about deeply, bury them under a couple of feet of dirt. It'll be fun!
Ways to fail: The only way to really fail this quest is to either try it with someone you don't actually have a deep bond with, or to refuse to bury them completely. They do have to be properly buried, after all!
Limit: 2 per character

QUEST 47
Requirements: any colors.
So... at some point, you'll probably notice just how much the woods have edged in on the Town this month. It's a little creepy, and probably rather disconcerting; the trees just loom, roots slowly overtaking the edges of the pathways or branches shoving their way through the windows of a house as if they were growing for decades, not overnight.
But the Town wants you to push them back.
Of course... the next question is "how?", and there's not a lot of information offered up in this quest. How do you push back the woods?
In truth? There are a couple of ways that'll work, but the outcome of the quest will be different based on what characters do (and if they come up with a clever way that we don't have listed here, please feel free to submit it!):
1. Cutting down/burning the trees -- it may not be a great outcome, but that sure is a way to push back the woods, quite literally.
2. Watching the trees encroaching on the Town -- we're talking 24/7 keeping an eye on the trees without blinking. You might want to get some people to help take some shifts. But doing it long enough will reveal that it seems like the trees have...shrunk back a fair amount.
3. The power of bonds... of course. In this case, that manifests in literally just hanging out in the fringes of the woods encroaching on the Town with someone you have a really, really strong bond with (or multiple people, for stronger effects!). Over time, characters will notice that the woods seem to be shrinking back.
4. Whatever you can come up with that you think will work! Please feel free to either ask, or to just go for it! You can always submit the quest with whatever your character decided to try.
Ways to succeed: There are so many different ways to succeed for this quest, and the outcomes will be different based on which you go with -- please feel free to be creative and try what you like!
Ways to fail: Failure, in this case, will definitely just be anything that doesn't successfully push back the trees; but that'll be pretty few and far between here, so long as the characters are actively trying.
Limit: 1 per character
