Burn the Stars

It happens quite suddenly. One moment the Town is perfectly peaceful, the newcomers slowly settling in --

And then a roar splits the sky, and everyone in the Town has some new scaly company. It's dragons, of course. The dragons have finally come to harass everyone here. They swoop in, dragons of all sorts and types (eastern, western, dragons that don't quite fit into either choice), and they don't really seem all too friendly. They'll swoop in, trying to claw up buildings, trying to lift away or bite characters, or use fire breath or poison or acid or who knows what else to burn the Town to the ground.

If the people in the Town want it to stay standing? They're going to have to do something about this.

But what can they do? It might vary from character to character. Of course, there's always the option to outright fight the dragons off. It won't be easy, but surely some of the characters can manage it, if they work together. They might end up with some nasty gashes or burns, but all's well that saves your house from being lit on fire, right?

But there are more ways than that to handle dragons.

Some of the dragons speak -- some of them might be able to be reasoned with and sent away. In particular, thanks to the efforts of Keigo and the people who assisted him with the egg and its resulting baby dragon, some of the dragons are not exactly aggressive. Maybe you have to solve a riddle to convince them to leave. Maybe it takes a deep, long philosophical discussion? Maybe you have to lull one to sleep with the power of song.

With dragons, the possibilities are endless, and they come in so many varieties, types and flavors that nearly anything is fair game.

That said? Most of them are aggressive, and unless everyone works together, the Town is going to burn right down to the ground. For that reason, we'll ask for everyone to please respond to this comment with any dragons that are defeated. By "defeated", we just mean convinced to stop trying to destroy the Town, no matter what form that might take. This doesn't have to be threaded out to completion by any means -- just let us know so we can get a good gauge of how much dragon fighting is really happening!

Either way, good luck fending off the big, magical, intelligent and scaly beasts. They're going to be a total pain -- here there be dragons.

This is such a stupid question but

Are any of the dragons actually giant-robotic-dragons?

Sorry, no robots this time around -- they've got to all be flesh and blood dragons. Mythical/story-esque, etc are all fair game, but nothing futuresque!

If the dragons are killed by characters, can they be eaten for food?

And if so, what are the consequences (if any)?

They can absolutely be eaten, if you can break through that scaly hide. There aren't any consequences; they probably taste much like eating any other reptile (alligator, snake, etc)!

Will Little Keigo be there? Will characters be able to recognize him?

Little Keigo will not be there! They will note that there are no baby or young adult dragons at all -- they are all fully grown adults.

Re: the dragons more willing to chat, will they have anything to say if asked why they've decided to attack the town?

They will, if asked, though they will all give conflicting answers (and some of them are definitely lying). You're welcome to be creative with their answers, but they might be along the lines of:

> "You guys make such a ruckus out here, we were tired of listening to it."

> "You're all so puny, it seemed convenient."

> "We just happened to stumble across you."

> "It was foretold in a prophecy."

> "Who cares, we're here now."

And so on and so forth. Dragons are kind of jerks.

Two questions, please:

1. What will happen to a character if they get carried off? (I'm guessing become a snack but I wanted to ask.)

2. Will they also be burning the forest in some big sweeping annihilation or is it town concentrated?

1. They will definitely become a snack at some point, though it's also perfectly fine to have characters kidnapped and added to a Hoard in some cave somewhere in the woods, so that they need to be rescued. This can happen to more than just princesses or virgins here, so feel free to go wild if you'd like to go that route. The dragons will always plan on eating you eventually though.

2. It is very much town concentrated! In fact, it's almost eerie how very carefully the dragons avoid burning any of the forest (though there may be some collateral damage).

Is taking a dragon hostage viable for getting others to hold back and provide information? I imagine they aren't able to find anyone important enough to send the whole fleet going, but I'm willing to work with both scenarios of it working and not working!

And while being abducted, does it just go straight up, is it straight down the throat before proper mileage, or can someone attempt to get a view past the forest?

It's entirely viable! Most of the dragons will probably think that that dragon is a bit of a fool for getting captured and held hostage by tiny humans, but some of them may care enough to back off!

Characters can have any of the above happen -- they might be eaten immediately, the dragon might take them for a casual flight first, the dragon might steal them away to add them to a hoard in a cave for a little while before trying to eat them... the possibilities are endless. They might even find a casual tower to stick someone in as their proper abducted princess. If you've heard of it in dragon literature in any sort, it's viable here!

That said, the characters won't be able to see past the forest; the dragons won't ever go that far with their prey.

First off, I would like to offer to anyone who doesn’t already know that there is a rather sizable warehouse in Bluo that Nyx asked for during the wishing event. It’s built to be a shelter, with reinforced walls and plenty of space for anyone who needs it and supplies. Nyx has moved some stock over there for use in emergencies.

Now since it’s relevant: will this shelter be effective defense against these dragons?

And unrelated, but Nyx received a ring ages ago that could kill one living thing. He never used it so I’m assuming it still has its charge. Can he use it on a dragon if necessary?

That shelter will absolutely protect people from the dragons! They won't seem to even realize that it's there, so it'd be a good safe place for the less combat oriented townsfolk.

That ring will also work just fine against one single dragon, if he chooses to do so!

Can any dragons be convinced to aid the town instead? If not now then in the future? Like offered a favor or something in return?

And it is probably that one of them can give Nyx the idea that the forest may be able to give him his life back?

The dragons can't be convinced to turn on their own kind; they can be convinced to possibly save a few characters who are in dire straits if the characters are very persuasive in some form or another, but they won't actively go against the other dragons.

And that's absolutely possible; the dragons are pretty wise and knowledgable, so some of them will be aware that that's something he can do to get his life force back!

Can the dragons be tracked to their source (assuming that it took them under a day to get to town from who knows where)? If a character tried to go home with one of the retreating dragons or, like in Tristan's case, use his tracking powers to figure out where the dragons are coming from exactly, will anything happen or will characters just be directed to nowhere in particular?

Characters can make the attempt, but that ultimately won't be possible; it seems as though the dragons live beyond the woods, so any attempts to follow them will get the characters entrapped and ensnared in the woods like usual. In particular, if Tristan attempts to use his tracking powers, he will end up wandering the woods for days, going in circles as the woods makes those powers function incorrectly.

Can the fires caused by the dragons be put out through regular means?

It can, yes! It is regular fire once it's been spat out and starts burning things.

If the dragons are asked if any of them have seen/are familiar with Little Keigo, what would their responses be?

It might make the reasonably peaceful and chill dragons angry, even, honestly! Though if anyone asks and risks the extra aggression, they might find out that the reason the dragons are here to burn the Town to the ground is because the Town stole away a dragon egg. Note that they don't blame the player characters for it -- but unfortunately they're just collateral damage for living in a Town that steals away dragon eggs from dragons and thinks that's a good idea!

Mostly, though, they really don't want the reminder that something like that happened, so be careful with that topic!

The latest question ever but what, if anything could Shiho read from the dragons if she used her psychometry on them? For instance, history or motivations, weaknesses, biological makeup etc

Also would conventional tranquilizers work on them? (Assuming she can get it through the hide. Or stab them in the tongue with it or something idk)

Shiho will be able to read that they are very much exactly what she'd expect from mythological dragons -- most of them are very old, they're very magical and powerful, and their motivations are mostly to burn down the Town for stealing away one of their eggs. Some of them also just don't like the Town and the player characters for being noisy, though; they're old and crotchety that way.

Otherwise, noteworthy for her to notice is that they are legitimately from a place beyond the forest -- they weren't just put there by the Town or some other force like the quest monsters are.

Conventional tranqs will work if there's a strong enough dosage of them used, and if she can get it through the hide somehow, yes!

Saber has dealt with six dragons on-screen (five killed, one danced/riddled away), but would've been vigorously fighting dragons offscreen for the entirety of the event if that matters... sorry dragons

kaoru and dextera got rid of a dragon by psychokineticizing it back into the forest! dextera also seduced a dragon or two with his sword.

So 13 so far! Most of them have been dealth with by answering the dragons' riddles/questions/requests (or will be completed as such), about ~3 of them are set to be battled off, and some threads are still pending. And Pyra would IC try to convince various other dragons to leave via pacifist route/trying not to hurt them in general....!
