Hello everyone, and welcome to May’s monthly mod post! We hope everyone has had a good time settling into the game, and that we're all ready to welcome new players into it!

Mechanics

First off, AC has completed and has been processed. As of this post, AC is open for May. May’s AC Post can be found here. Thank you to everyone who completed AC!
On a quick side note, when submitting AC please avoid using commas. It messes with the form a bit, so try to leave them out! We'll update the AC form to reflect this requirement as well. Thank you for your understanding.
AC has also been slightly tweaked; after looking at the choices, we decided it would be more fair to change the "post and an additional thread of 10 comments" option to be "a post and an additional one to two threads maximum" option. Occasionally threads are dropped, or do not meet the minimum length, and we wanted to make AC easy to respond to! This change can be seen on all of the current AC pages.
Reserves are closed to new players, as they have been filled. Current players are welcome to continue to reserve their second characters if they would like, but will not require a reserve to apply.
Applications open May 7th, 9 PM EST. They will remain open until May 14th, 9 PM EST.
The intro log will go up May 15th, 9 PM EST. There will also be a smaller, more lowkey event at the end of the month to help settle in the new characters.

Quests

Quests for May are now up! The OOC breakdown of said quests can be found below, as with last month. All quests have been posted ICly to the Quest Forum Post.
The Quest Reporting comment can be found here. As ever, please respond to that comment once the quest itself has been completed. If the thread continues on, but is simply small talk or characters doing other things, you’re welcome to turn in the thread as soon as the quest is done.
Please be aware that Quests still must be reported by the end of the month; this is because we use what quests are completed to keep track of what colors are restored for the next month!

Color Changes

This month’s color changes are as follows (color changes can be tracked at the Color/Game Timeline):

Color Gains:

Please see this comment to see what changes have occurred based off of an impactful thread on your Color Log. These changes are based off of the general blended color of the two (or more) characters involved in the thread.
Because every quest was completed last month, the Town has had a very special thing restored -- characters will now be able to see the stars at night. The sky itself is now black at night, and the stars are bright and twinkly and perfectly star-like. As soon as the sky brightens for daytime, it goes back to being bleak and colorless.
As the storyteller quest was successfully completed, all of the books in the Town have now had their writing restored, as the color Black typeset has been restored. This means that characters are also able to write on paper in the Town without being unable to see the words they're writing, even if using only supplies from the Town. The books in the libraries and the houses are all.......... fairy tales. Of course they are. Any fairy tale you can imagine from any culture can probably be found in those books somewhere.

Color Losses:

Tomatoes no longer have color or taste.
Dave and Caingorm’s houses no longer have color.
Izuku’s text color is now absent, and his text will appear black again.
The following foods have additionally lost their flavor and color: red peppers, blue cotton candy, bananas, pineapples.

Defeat the Jorogumo.

Requirements: 1 blue.

A youkai of Japanese folklore, these spider ladies can transform from spider to beautiful woman at will. She might show up in her beautiful seductress form and try to seduce you (doesn't matter what gender you are, seducing is all equal here), or she may show up in her spider form and just try to eat you in general. All roads lead to eating, eventually.

She lurks deep in the woods, surrounded by spiderwebs that will try to trap her unwary foes, so approach with caution.

Ways to succeed: "Defeat" can technically mean a lot of things. In this context, it means "kill the asshole", because she's not going to stop trying to eat you until she's dead.

Ways to fail: Well, if you die, you probably don't win. Also, if you try to flee, she'll just follow you back to the Town, and then everyone has to deal with her. Nice.

Capture a dozen geese.

Requirements: Any two of the same color.

This was a murder quest, but now you're spared the murder thanks to a certain couple of characters trying to catch the harpies last month! Hooray, less murder!

On the other hand, that means now you have to catch a dozen psychotic geese in the woods if you want to succeed at this quest -- and yes, you have to catch them alive. You can't kill them, it won't count. Look at that face. And naturally, as per usual Woods fare, they all are mutated or strange in some way. Watch out for firebreathing geese with wings, or geese with way too many legs.

Ways to succeed: Capture 12 geese, bring them back to Town. Maybe set them loose on your friends? The possibilities are endless. (All you have to do is bring them back to Town.)

Ways to fail: If you kill any of the geese, the quest is a big failure. Sorry. If you lose a goose, it's also a failure. You gotta have 12!

Make a wish come true.

Requirements: Any two colors.

This quest is another vague one, and there's no real indication of what it means or what needs to be done to successfully complete it. In order to complete this quest, a character must make another character's wish come true -- regardless of what wish they end up helping accomplish.

That said, the quest reward? It scales based on the sorts of wishes that are completed. Bringing a character a meal will complete the quest, but the reward will be small because it was a small wish. Somehow managing to help a character accomplish their life's goal (how) would naturally be a huge reward.

Ways to succeed: Figure out a character's desire, and find a way to complete it. The quest is "at least two", so a large group of characters could accomplish one character's wish and succeed. But they'll have to split the reward.

Ways to fail: Pretty much anything else. If you do the inverse of this quest, and somehow manage to totally destroy a character's wish somehow, there might be something special awaiting too.

Learn a new skill.

Requirements: 1 red.

This one, in contrast, is pretty much right there on the tin! Character A learns something new from Character B that they didn't know before, and the quest is done! Nice, that's an easy one.

Ways to succeed: Learn something new from another character! Apparently that character has to be red (unless your character is already red), but it's fine, there are lots of those around. It has to be a skill, mind you -- not just facts or knowledge, but some sort of new ability, mundane or otherwise.

Ways to fail: Don't fake it, by the way. If you try to pretend you're learning something new when you do, in fact, already know how to do something, you won't succeed. Shame, that.

If characters picked up newspapers from the general store, would there be something other than fairy tales on them?

are the books that keith and dave stole from that cottage also fairy tales or do they hve anything different/important/whatever?

Can paint be found around town? Can it be any kind of paint?

The newspapers read like regular newspapers! They contain information on day-to-day town life, nothing particularly exciting -- someone from Flavo having raised a giant chicken, someone from Ruga writing a new book. There are no dates on them, and they really read more like a small town journal than anything!

For quest 9 the requirements say one red but then in the ways to succeed section it says one blue. Which color is required to complete the quest?

Would the gang helping Caramia get his courage back count as fulfilling a wish?

Quest 9 lists a red character as a requirment but in the description it says "Apparently that character has to be blue (unless your character is already blue)". Is the requriment 1 red, 1 blue or 1 of both?

The books that Keith and Dave stole are different! They appear to be a meticulous journal of the person who was living there, who was probably not entirely sound in the head. It's daily scribblings, but there continues to be no dates on any of the entries. Because they grabbed books at random, they are likely not chronological, but what they will notice nonetheless is that the books go from a relatively peaceful relating of living life outside of the Town and closer to nature to strange ramblings about how the Woods is talking to them, and how the Woods wants something.

The last few entries of the last book they took is pretty much entirely incomprehensible.

If you need any more detail at any point, we'd be happy to go through some of the entries with you, but hopefully that helps give you an idea of what's in those books!

Paint can be found around the Town, yes! Any kind of paint can be found, though naturally some of it is dried out/unusable/etc. Some of it is fine, though.

Any paint that hasn't had its color restored will paint a weird murky grey.

If two characters don't meet the requirements and have no intention of trying to complete the quest... does it count as a failure when they "mess up"?

I'm asking because Emma is definitely going to just hunt a goose or two for food. They have color back, okay?? So if she goes out with a Blue, let's say, and not another yellow just to hunt does it count as a failure?

It absolutely counts as a failure, so it'll have an impact for next month -- which is not necessarily a bad thing! The reason it still counts as a failure is because all of the quest monsters and creatures are sort of... Put There for the quests in particular, so fiddling with them is like starting a quest automatically.

So please feel free to cook all of the geese, but definitely report it!
